4 Romance Reads for the YA Fantasy Enthusiast in Us All

February 13, 2019

I'm back, back, back, back again...

Hello, friends! It's been a hot minute since I've posted because, as we all know, school sucks. But I am back today to talk about all things love, romance, cutesy (actually no not so much cutesy JUST KIDDING).

I'm actually someone who really enjoys Valentine's day (despite not being in a relationship). I'm not saying it's because of the chocolate and romance novel sales but... that's exactly what I'm saying. Valentine's day is THE BEST.

Anyways, I tend to see a lot of romance recommendations around this time of year, buuuuut they tend to be for contemporary romance novels aka not my favorite things ever. On the other hand, slow burn FANTASY romance novels... now we're talking.

So if you're like me and contemporary just isn't your thing, let me introduce you to some fantasy romances to get your blood boiling (in the best way possible).

1. Anything by JLA

Can we please take a moment of silence for whoever designed the covers of The Lux (and The Dark Elements) series. Y'ALL DID JLA SO DIRTY.
Anyways, I think we all already know how obsessed I am with JLA's books. They're 100% my guilty pleasure reads (except I feel absolutely no guilt for reading them xD).
If you want a series to marathon then you NEED The Lux or The Dark Elements. Both are quick reads but the characters in The Lux may or may not be slightly more likeable (just a fair warning).

2. Wintersong by: S. Jae-Jones

If you're looking for darkness and passion... I've got you.
Wintersong is a retelling of Labyrinth that's simultaneously beautiful, lyrical, and haunting. I absolutely suck at summaries but if I've intrigued you... here's the official summary.
The cover is also stunning so it will look nice on your bookshelf ;)

3. A Court of Thorns & Roses and A Court of Mist and Fury by: Sarah J Maas

Can I get a Rhysand please and thank you?
It's been over three years since I first started this series and... I'm still obsessed. (Excluding book three which I choose not to acknowledge 👀). ACOTAR is pretty cool but A Court of Mist and Fury? Probably one of my favorite books of all time. Correction. It IS my favorite book of all time.
If you've read ACOTAR but didn't really enjoy it please PLEASE give book two a chance. You (and your heart) will not regret it.

4. The Star-Touched Queen by: Roshani Chokshi

I will forever push this book on anyone and everyone. Roshani Chokshi is a stunningly beautiful writer. If nothing else, read this book for the writing.
But I do have to warn you. This Hades/Persephone retelling will have your heart singing. (Gosh I love stories about literal soulmates).

... and while you're here, here's a cutesy movie rec!

5. Movie bonus: Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging

Oh the days of being 15. This is the perfect movie to watch if you just want to forget about your problems for a bit. It's cutesy, a bit over dramatic, and comical (aka perfect for Valentine's day!)
It'll have you longing for the days when things were simultaneously more simple and more complicated.
... AND it was just added to Netflix so go forth and stream it!

Thank you bunches for reading!
What's your favorite romance book/series of all time? Have you enjoyed any of the books on the list?

I hope you have an absolutely magical day ♥
